Cynthia Ann Leighton on New Year’s Resolutions

Hello, Cynthia Ann Leighton here. Now’s New Year’s Resolutions season. I’m thinking on my goals now, from the lens of New Year’s Resolutions. I wrote challenges not just resolutions.

Setting goals is a year-round boost that helps you make what you want to happen in your life begin to happen for you.

I want to help you with that.

So I thought today might be a good time to share a simple quote from one of my recent blog posts:

…identify what it is that you want.

To plan in a kind of gentle way about how to fit making that happen into your life.

Studies do show that writing things down makes a difference.

Especially measured over a lifetime!

As I go through life, a lot of my goals have had to change. Because sometimes challenges just force me to choose differently than what I would have preferred to have been doing.

As I do, I find that there are small ways to make changes in my world by using my challenges.

Challenges are unique to you at a particular phase of your life.

But challenges are also part of humanity. We all face challenges. Some of them we face and we grow from facing them! Others we grow from simply surviving them

I encourage you to think of your challenges as you face the year that’s in front of you.

Yes, write down your goals.

Then take an extra step this year.

Write down your challenges too!

Think in terms of how you can use your challenges to help you to grow.

Face your challenges; survive your challenges.

Thrive because of your challenges by using those challenges to help you in becoming a stronger, more resilient you.

Nope, that’s not going to be easy.

Yet you’re faced with those challenges now. They’re real.

Years, maybe even decades from now, you will look back and say those challenges pushed you into a growth spurt.

Why not live in the moment using your challenges?

That’s a good resolution any time of year. Not just a good New Year’s Resolution: much much more.

That’s the beginning of allowing yourself to plan for personal change that fits you.

***Willingness*** to use your challenges to grow!

Use the challenges in your life to form you into the you that, well, makes what you want in your life fit into your life this year.
